A lot of dental practices stay quiet online for one reason: they're not sure what they're allowed to post.
That's a fair worry. Patient privacy matters, and nobody wants a problem over an Instagram post. But "we can't post anything" isn't true either. There's plenty you can share safely.
This isn't legal advice. It's a practical starting point. When in doubt, ask your compliance advisor.
Safe to post, every week
- •Your team. Introduce your hygienists, assistants and front desk. People choose a dentist they feel they already know.
- •Your office. The new chairs, the kids' corner, the coffee bar.
- •Smile tips. Flossing myths, what to do about sensitive teeth, when kids should first see a dentist.
- •Community. School visits, sponsorships, food drives.
- •Behind the scenes. Sterilization, new technology, what a visit looks like.
- •Hours, holidays and reminders. Simple and useful.
Only with signed consent
- •Smile results and before-and-afters.
- •Any patient's face, name or story.
- •Reviews that identify a patient.
Get written consent first, keep it on file, and only share what the patient agreed to.
Never
- •X-rays, charts or treatment details tied to a person.
- •Screenshots that show a patient schedule or software.
- •Replies to reviews that confirm someone is your patient.
How we handle it
At 298Digital, we never access patient records, and we never post a patient's name, face or record without signed consent. Most of what we post is your team, your office and helpful tips, because that's what builds trust anyway.
